John, 39, started feeling pain in his lower back two weeks after a particularly tiresome day of fixing the roof tiles on his house. The task involved lifting heavy chunks of tiles for up to four hours without rest, but that was part of the job. Initially, he dismissed the pain and swallowed some pain killer tablets.
“I thought I had managed the situation well, and so I didn’t think about it after.” -he remembers.
He didn’t have to. A week passed without any form of pain, and he forgot all about it. Then one morning, he suddenly couldn’t stand up.
I literally freaked out. I couldn’t stand up because my lower back felt broken and so painful.” he says. “The worst bit is that I felt so much pain!
No immediate drug could stop the pain. Even the recommended drugs only seemed to relieve the situation for a few hours, and it would go back to pain as soon as the day ended.
“When the pain couldn’t stop with the drugs I was using, I thought it would go away on its own. So, I waited.”
But nothing happened. John felt no change at all. In fact, it all started to fall apart. Before he could get a grasp of the situation, the pain started to worsen.
I had previously been able to climb ladders, paint houses and mend roofs as part of my job. As the days passed, I couldn’t make it up a ladder.
John, like many others in his state, believed he was to blame for the pain. He also thought the pain was never going to go away. He didn’t know about natural alternatives, so he gave up on treatment and surrendered to the pain.
“Of course, I had to stop working for a long time”, he says. “The pain in my lower back affected my life so much and turned it upside down. “
“For all the pain I felt, I lost all hope in the future.” he adds.
For Reza, 59, the pain started right after she stumbled on the last stair and hurt her knee. Immediately, the mother of two and grandmother of six thought she had bruised her knee. Surprisingly, she hadn’t.
“There was no visible wound. All I could feel was a little pain that went away after a week.” she says.
But that wasn’t the end. The pain in her knee resumed after a week or so. It didn’t come alone; her knee became tender to the touch and showed visible signs of developing inflammation. When the pain became unbearable, she decided to visit her family doctor for treatment. The doctor did some tests as usual, but came back with unusual results.
“The doctor said my test results showed signs of rheumatoid arthritis.” she says. “I remember him saying it was common in women and men as they grew older.”
Reza wasn’t scared until the doctor told her it would get worse.
When the doctor said it could affect my mobility as time went on, i immediately thought of my grandchildren. How would it affect them? What would they think?
The doctor reminded Reza that the disease was in its early stages, which was where it was easier to manage.
Reza and John represent the thousands of men and women that suffer from the ailment that is body pain, resulting from a host of things.
Body pain affects millions of people across the world every year and while some cases can be treated to complete healing, others are chronic and may only be relieved temporarily.
The ever changing face of technology and its inclusion in medicine has resulted in the making of a wide range of trial medicines for body pain all over the world.
With some effort, effective medicine has been manufactured and remains highly popular. Nowadays, there are more alternatives to this medicine.
Body Pain: The Forms
Body pain is a hurtful sensation initiated by the nervous system in response to certain factors or conditions in the body. The body is designed to feel, so any form of the sensation is felt by the victim’s body in different areas. Body pain can be classified under two categories; acute and chronic.
Acute Body Pain
This is the type of body pain that can disappear when treated properly. This kind of pain results from everyday accidents and diseases, and may last for months. It occurs gradually and may worsen if not treated, resulting in chronic pain.
Chronic Body Pain
Like the name suggests, chronic body pain affects an individual for years or months without relief, even after the treatment of the causative ailment. Chronic pain also affects its victims in various ways, including making them lose sleep and unable to do most activities on their own.
Common Types of Body Pain
May occur due to damage to the spine or the tissues that make up the back. It usually concentrates in the lower back, resulting in excessive pain.
Occurs in the body’s many joints including the ankles, knees, wrists, feet etc. It is the body’s reaction to any form of damage done to the tissues and bones that make up the joint. In many cases, it is identified by inflammation of the exterior, redness of skin, tenderness over time and stiffness.
This form of pain affects the head and may be triggered by a temporary illness such as fever or another existing condition. It also occurs as a result of the tightening of muscles from the neck that enable movement pf the head from side to side.
Usually results from poor posture and sitting for long hours.
May occur as a result of overstretching the joint where the arm and the shoulder meet.
How It Occurs
Pain is one of the many sensations spread around the body by the nervous system in reaction to any hurtful activity on or in the body. The pain flows through nerves and their receptors within the skin to the affected area after being identified by the brain as pain.
Causes Of Body Pain
While exercise is good for the body, vigorous exercise in all its forms isn’t. Vigorous exercise is the kind of exercise done in quick successive or repetitive motions for a long time, usually with heavy materials.
Such exercise strains the muscles inside the body, causing gradual wear and tear. The result is swelling or internal bleeding, causing a great deal of pain.
Wounds and Other External Injuries
The wounds we suffer from accidents are some of the biggest causes of bodily pain for as long as they heal. They may be external such as deep cuts or internal such as ulcers. Some wounds continue to cause pain even after they heal, especially the ones that are formed inside the body.

Common examples include menstrual cramps, constipation, tumour formation etc., which occur inside the body and result in pain.
Loss of water in the body results in dehydration, which is one of the many causes of headaches in people. Dehydration can be due to over exposure to the sun, diarrhoea etc., and affects the way the body functions.
If an animal such as a snake, dog or even bee bites you, it can result in lots of pain and inflammation. Such animals tend to leave poisonous substances within the body they bite, triggering swelling and pain.
Muscle Strains and Soreness
Our muscles work every day of our lives, and we wouldn’t be able to smile or walk without them. But some activities we do such as sports, running or overstretching them gradually stresses them, resulting in sprains and strains.
Diseases and Their Side Effects
A number of diseases are responsible for causing body pain, courtesy of their damaging effect on bodily tissues.
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that occurs when the body mistakenly attacks the tissues that make up the lining of joints in the body. It can occur on any joint such as the knee, wrist, fingers etc., and currently lacks a general cure.
The damage to the lining causes pain and inflammation of the joint, as does the degradation of cartilage around the edges of the bones in the joint as a result.

Body Pain Treatment
Over the years, research and tests have been done to come up with drugs that can relieve body pain. Read further to find out the alternatives you can use to calm your pain.
The first kind of treatment that comes to mind for any form of body pain is medical treatment. That includes tablets and injections of drugs that can stop inflammation and minimize pain for some time.
The smart move is to see your doctor first and ascertain the cause of your pain before trying out any random treatments. Your doctor will then prescribe the medication they think is right for your condition.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications work by inhibiting the production of bodily chemicals that cause inflammation. They are effective against body pain caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, gout, back aches etc. Common NSAIDs include ibuprofen, aspirin etc.
Ensure that you have the confirmation of your doctor before using NSAIDs. They may cause allergies in some people or limit the performance of other drugs you might be taking with them. Pregnant women should consult with doctors first too.
You can also use corticosteroid injections to treat body pain, especially if it is in one of the joints such as the knee, the elbow or the ankle. Corticosteroids are effective against inflammation caused by arthritis, muscle strains and sprains, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome etc.
Corticosteroid injections are applied directly to the affected joint three or four times a year.
If you feel severe pain and no other medication can give you relief, consider using pain relievers such as morphine and codeine to numb the pain. Both drugs are very effective, but they can be addictive. Get your doctor’s permission first before using them.
Topical Creams and Ointments
There’s a number of topical creams and ointments on sale in pharmacies that you can use to treat body pain. Look for ointments that contain natural chemical compounds such as capsaicin, counterirritants and salicylates as active ingredients.
All you have to do is to apply the cream or ointment to the affected area and rub it in a few times a day until the swelling subsides and the pain goes away.
While research on them isn’t really conclusive, particular drugs designed to treat depression are also effective against most forms of body pain. They work by increasing the production of chemicals within the sign that inhibit signalling of pain to nerves across the body.
The hot-and-cold treatment technique is quite effective for body pain, especially when inflammation is seen as a sign. It involves applying cloth dipped in hot/warm water (or a bottle of hot water wrapped in a cloth) on the affected area for some minutes and then letting it cool.
This treatment works by triggering better circulation of blood to the swollen area, which subsequently lowers the inflammation and pain.
Alternatively, you can use the cold treatment, which involves applying ice wrapped in a cloth to the swollen area for some time and then letting it warm up. The ice numbs the pain and lowers the swelling over time.
Contrary to popular belief, sitting for long hours or lying in bed for days only worsens existing body pain. It’s true that you need rest for some forms of body pain such as that caused by muscle tears, but some forms of treatment require you to stand up and shake up.
The body needs some exercise to heal its tissues and combat the pain you’re experiencing. That’s why exercise is highly recommended if you’re suffering from body pain.
Of course it doesn’t have to be vigorous exercise. Light exercises such as walking around and stretching every morning and evening can do. Exercise facilitates better blood circulation to the affected body part and strengthens its tissues more.
Dieting is not a standalone treatment alternative for body pain; it goes hand in hand with every other form of treatment you may choose on this list.
The body requires particular nutrients in their equal amounts for it to function properly as regards bodily development and regeneration. Particular nutrients such as vitamins, proteins, omega 3 fatty acids and selenium are essential for relieving body pain and the inflammation that comes along with it.
Proteins in particular are necessary for the rebuilding of damaged tissues back to their original structure. The ideal diet should have equal amounts of all the necessary nutrients, with a slight increase in protein sources for those suffering from pain resulting from tissue damage.
Acupuncture is a Chinese form of treatment that involves the placement of tiny needles in an area of the body. It happens to be effective against various forms of body pain including headaches, menstrual pain and back pain, earning it a place on this list.
Acupuncture is thought to work by stimulating the release of endorphins, which happens to be effective at relieving body pain. Look for a registered acupuncturist to arrange a session with. For more effect, more than one session is recommended.
Massages have been found to provide relief against back pain, in research published by the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Participants that got a one hour massage targeting the tissues of the lower back were found to be twice as likely to spend less times in bed, take less medications and have more stamina for activities such as walking and having sex.
The effect was also found to last longer than the effect brought by common anti-inflammatory drugs and pain relievers, with more than 6 months of relief from back pain registered. In other words, getting a good massage is just the right thing to do for your back pain.
You can also use essential oils such as sesame oil or castor oil during your massage for more effect. Massages also work for other forms of pain such as knee pain, wrist pain and headaches.
Yoga is more popular than ever now, but not for treating body pain. In fact most people do not know about its advantages for the body as regards treating various forms of ailments.
Yoga uses meditation and simple exercises to treat body pain through strengthening of body tissues and relaxation of the mind. It is also effective for treating people with stress.
For individuals with body pain, especially knee pain, yoga poses such as the lotus pose, the camel, the triangle pose are good for strengthening thigh and leg muscles and improving their resistance against inflammation and other ailments.

Reza’s story takes a different turn.
After some months of taking the medicine the doctor prescribed for slowing down her arthritis, it became expensive to keep the trend. Reza had to take the medicine regularly, but buying it from the pharmacy practically became an additional expense she couldn’t afford.
“I take care of four of my grandchildren.” she says. “We weren’t very financially stable when the disease started, so it affected us even more when I had to direct some of my wages toward buying these drugs.”
The hardest part for her was not knowing when the disease would stop.
“The doctor said the medicine would only slow it down.” she remembers. “He didn’t have to say it, but I realised soon enough that it meant taking medicine forever without the hope of a permanent cure.”
Reza did not stop shopping around for alternative forms of treatment she could use. Along the way she discovered countless treatment touted all over the internet, but none of them had enough reviews to satisfy her curiosity.
It was a friend of hers that introduced her to Ayurveda. She immediately did some research on it, and the explanations she read on the internet were impressive.
Reza went ahead to dig up information about the best Ayurveda practitioners in her Kolkata area. The first name that came up was Rangoli Ayurved.
She remembers, ”I visited them after a month of correspondence, and was introduced to their arthritis treatment package, which I loved.”
She started on the company’s medication soon enough and soon started seeing results. The best part of the whole situation was the cost of treatment.
“Rangoli’s treatment wasn’t as expensive as the medicine I got from the pharmacy. It wasn’t a regular payment without hope of a cure.’ she says. “It also came with a 100% money back guarantee, which greatly improved my trust in what I was buying.”
Reza’s pain subsided greatly two weeks after starting the treatment. The most painful signs, including tenderness, inflammation and redness were gone earlier than she imagined. Despite the hard work that was involved, Reza is still happy about the results.
“I feel much better now. There’s no more pain. I continue to do the exercises I learnt and eat the foods I was told to, which has kept me in great shape.” she says. “I no longer wobble around in pain, and I now know that I don’t have to live in pain forever.”
How to Prevent Body Pain
Preventing body pain from happening isn’t impossible. The most effective way to go is by preventing all the conditions that cause it to occur.
Some causes of pain, such as rheumatoid arthritis are auto immune conditions, so they may be treated but cannot be prevented. Still, other forms of body pain can be prevented by following a few important lifestyle tips such as the ones below.
Maintain A Good Posture
For some forms of pain such as back pain, posture has everything to do with causing pain or preventing it. Maintaining a poor posture when sleeping, sitting, standing or walking affects the muscles in the body, straining them and causing pain in the process.
The ideal posture is to sit with your back straight against the back of the chair or stand straight at 90° to the ground.
Body pain usually affects the muscles and other tissues of the body. Regular exercise is a good way to strengthen these muscles and lower their vulnerability to damage from strains that may be caused by excessive activity or disease.
Take time to do gentle exercises that relax the muscles while strengthening them, and then move to stronger exercises that harden muscles and other tissues.
Exercise also improves blood circulation to the body’s tissues, which adds to their nourishment and facilitates their development over time.
Do your exercises the right way to avoid body pain. Avoid lifting heavy weights or carrying them awkwardly. Over doing your exercises also results in body pain from muscle stress, so limit your exercise hours.
Avoid Lifting Heavy Stuff
Lifting is one of the activities with a huge effect on the back. That’s because most people over exert the back when lifting things from the ground, which strains its muscles in the process.
To avoid back pain, try lifting heavy objects closer to your chest and exerting pressure on your legs, not your back.
Additionally, do not lift very heavy objects from the ground. Test things for how heavy they feel before you decide to carry them. You should also consider incorporating breaks in your lifting schedule to avoid lifting for long hours without rest.
Get on Protein Rich Diets
Proteins are the body building nutrients the body needs. They are made up of amino acids, which serve as the building blocks for the body’s tissues and muscles. To strengthen your body tissues, you need to add proteins to your diet in addition to other nutrients.
Vegetarians can consider adding lean sources of protein such as beans and lentils while non-vegetarians have every option
Lose the Extra Weight
It’s no surprise that heavy-weight people tend to suffer more from some forms of pain such as knee pain and back pain. Knee pain in particular is sometimes caused by the amount of weight exerted on the knee during activities such as walking, climbing stairs or running.
To keep body pain at bay, heavy weight people should consider losing the extra weight and maintaining the new weight with regular exercise.
Rest for Enough Hours Every Night.
According to the experts, the healing process moves faster when you’re asleep. The body needs up to 6 hours of sleep every night for proper healing of damaged tissues to occur. Spare enough hours for sleep every night to prevent body pain.
Despite what anyone else may tell you, all forms of body pain can be treated. Don’t stay back and give up just because a particular form of pain has refused to heal with modern day medicine.
You still have alternatives that work. Check out our Body Pain Treatment Package.
